Koh Lipe Weather & Seasons

So when is the best time to visit Koh Lipe and when is the Koh Lipe weather at its best? Well weather conditions on Koh Lipe vary from season to season. There could be heavy rain and storms from April through to September, but do not let this put you off visiting during this time. When it does rain it’s normally quick showers or during the night. Periodically you may experience full days of rain but those aren’t the normal during the peak season. Koh Lipe weather conditions do not really change much throughout the year – they are pretty consistent throughout.

Weekends tend to be more hectic all year on Koh Lipe as Thai and Malaysian tourists flock to the island for a weekend break. Transportation and hotel can get busy on Friday, Saturday and Sundays, especially when there is a Thai holiday in place.

Koh Lipe has actually seen a big boost in visitors in the last decade and has now become an all year holiday destination. The island can be reached all year round now from Pak Bara. In high season boats likewise connect to and from Langkawi, Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi, Phuket and a number of small islands in the Andaman Sea.

Koh Lipe’s main season is November to April and are the most popular periods for tourists to visit the island.

High Season: October until May. Koh Lipe is very popular for Thai tourists during long weekends and national holidays, and accommodation is sometimes booked months in advance.

Peak Season: December, January and February. Most of the rooms on the island are full, and if you arrive without a reservation it will be hard to find a room you like. Popular places are booked months in advance for Christmas and New Year, and during the weeks before and after. This is the same all over Thailand, and Koh Lipe is no exception, so booking a hotel well in advance is highly recommended!

Low Season: May until October. It is now possible to visit Koh Lipe all year round. Although some places do close during low season, there are now many more open all year. The island is very quiet in low season, or as the locals call it ‘green season’, good news is that some hotels offer as much as 75% discount during this season!

So no need to worry about the Koh Lipe weather too much – just get your trip booked and enjoy the Maldives of Thailand!
